The All India Institute of Medical Sciences began in 1956 with a single campus in New Delhi, set up as an autonomous public institution directly under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. It was built to be a self-contained centre for medical education, patient care and research, and it has held on to that reputation for nearly seven decades.
Since 2012, the network has expanded steadily under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, bringing AIIMS-standard teaching hospitals to states that previously had no central medical institute of this scale — from Rishikesh and Raipur to newer campuses in Rajkot, Bathinda, Kalyani and Vijaypur. Eligibility Criteria
- Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English, from a recognised board.
- Minimum age of 17 years as on 31st December of the admission year.
- Valid NEET UG score, with the required minimum percentile for your category (General, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, PwBD).
- Registration for MCC's All India Quota counselling, since AIIMS seats are filled only through this route.
Fee Structure Snapshot
- Academic tuition is heavily subsidised — roughly ₹5,856 per year at most AIIMS campuses, among the lowest in the country.
- Hostel and mess charges are separate and not subsidised, typically ₹3,000–5,000 per month depending on the campus.
- A one-time refundable caution deposit (usually ₹5,000–10,000) is collected at admission.
- Foreign national seats (available only at AIIMS New Delhi) follow a separate, higher fee structure.
