Who Can Apply for MBBS Admission?
To pursue MBBS in India, every candidate must meet a common set of eligibility conditions laid down by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and cleared through NEET-UG, the single entrance examination for all medical admissions in the country.
Eligibility largely depends on your academic record in Class 12, your NEET score and category, and — if you're considering MBBS abroad — the additional requirements set by the destination country and the National Medical Commission's screening norms.

These conditions apply to every MBBS aspirant applying through NEET-UG in India.
Age Limit
Candidate must be at least 17 years old on or before 31st December of the admission year. There is no upper age limit as per current NMC guidelines.
Qualifying Exam
Passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as core subjects from a recognized board.
Minimum Marks
Minimum 50% aggregate in PCB for General category, 45% for General-EWS/OBC, and 40% for SC/ST/OBC-reserved categories in Class 12.
NEET-UG Qualification
Candidate must appear for and qualify NEET-UG in the same academic year, meeting the minimum qualifying percentile for their category.
Nationality
Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and foreign nationals are eligible to apply, subject to seat category and quota-specific documentation.
Medical Fitness
Candidates should be medically fit to pursue the rigorous academic and clinical demands of the MBBS course.

Requires domicile of the respective state along with a qualifying NEET score, as per state counselling authority norms.
Management / Private Quota
Open to NEET-qualified candidates nationwide; admission is through the respective college's or state's management counselling round.
NRI Quota
Applicant or a specified NRI sponsor relative must hold NRI status; candidate must still qualify NEET-UG with a valid score.
Deemed & Central Universities
Admission through NEET All India Rank via the MCC central counselling process; no domicile restriction applies.
MBBS Abroad
Requires a valid NEET-UG qualifying score along with the destination university's own academic and language requirements.
AIIMS / JIPMER Seats
Admitted only through NEET-UG All India Rank under the common MCC counselling process, same eligibility as central universities.

Is NEET-UG compulsory for MBBS admission?
Yes. NEET-UG is mandatory for MBBS admission in every recognized medical college in India, as well as for admission to most MBBS programs abroad recognized by the NMC.
Can a student with 45% in PCB apply for MBBS?
A General category candidate needs a minimum of 50% in PCB, while General-EWS/PwBD candidates need 45%, and SC/ST/OBC candidates need 40%.
Is there an upper age limit for NEET-UG?
As per current NMC guidelines there is no upper age limit for NEET-UG; the minimum age requirement is 17 years by 31st December of the admission year.
Are repeaters or gap-year students eligible?
Yes, candidates who have completed Class 12 in a previous year and meet the subject and marks criteria can appear for NEET-UG and apply for MBBS admission.
