How State & All India Quota Actually Works

Most confusion in MBBS admission comes from not knowing which quota you're eligible for. Here's the short version.

15% All India Quota (AIQ)

15% of seats in every government college are pooled centrally and counselled by MCC, open to candidates from any state, purely on NEET rank β€” no domicile required.

85% State Quota

The remaining 85% of government seats are reserved for domiciles of that state and counselled by the respective state authority, using the state merit list.

Management & NRI Quota

Private and Deemed universities set aside a management quota (and often a separate NRI quota) with higher fees, counselled by the institute or state body depending on rules.

FAQS

State-wise Admission β€” Common Questions

Generally no β€” state quota seats need proof of domicile (usually schooling of a certain number of years, or a domicile/residence certificate) in that state. You remain eligible for the 15% All India Quota and for private/deemed/management quota seats regardless of your home state.

It depends on your NEET score, budget and comfort with relocation. A government seat almost always costs less over the course, but a well-ranked private or deemed college can still be a strong option if your score doesn't clear government cutoffs in your target states.

The government medical college list, affiliated universities, year of establishment and MBBS seat counts are compiled from official NEET/NMC seat matrix references and state counselling authority publications, and are updated as new colleges get approval each admission cycle.

Cutoffs move every year based on the number of applicants, paper difficulty and seat matrix changes, so a rank that worked last year isn't a guarantee this year. We recommend checking the current year's official cutoff release before finalising your choice list.

Yes β€” our counsellors guide you through state-specific registration, document verification, choice filling strategy and seat allotment for the states you're eligible in, alongside private and deemed university admissions.
